Jump Rope Snake

Today when i was jump roping for my personal tennis conditioning i realized the physics involved when I sat on the side to take my 1 minute break. I tend to fool around with the rope at the time and i realized that the rope could correlate with the waves and frequency we are learning about now. Maybe not so directly, but it sure gave me a jolt that physics was involved. Besides the beauty of jumping rope which includes TONS of physics, making the rope into a snake deals with the basic fundamentals and principals. To make a snake i grab one end of the rope and let the other rest. Then i shuffle the rope on the ground at a constant motion until it turns into a wave. There are two ways to do this. One can be done continuous or the other, only once. By shaking it at a constant rate continuously, i create a periodic wave. If not, and I only do the single, then i created a single wave pulse. Wave pulse: A single disturbance caused by a one-time excitation. Periodic wave: A continuing wave caused by a repeated vibration. (These definitions are according to the Kinetic Books)As i alter the speed and the movement of my arm the vibration varies and has an increased amplitude and speed. Amplitude is the size of the crest formed.
